Par défaut Folder redirected, how to change this?

I've a network with 42 Windows XP klients and a Windows 2000 domain
controller. There are 300 users on the 40+ machines. Everything was
going well until a few days ago when all users experienced the same
strange behavior; the folder C:\documents and
settings\username\desktop was gone and all desktop items moved to a
network share where the users keep their files. When logging on users
have a log on script that maps X: to a server share (each user has
her own folder in this share) and all desktop items are moved to the
network share. This means that everything they store in the share is
now displayed on the desktop. I can not remember having done anything
to make this happen. I've looked through all group policy templates
and can not find anything.
How can this have happened? How can I get the "Desktop" folder back on
the local machine?
Any greatly appreciated.

Go to the properties of the desktop. Do you see the redirect?
Can you change it?
