I am working on an installation that we would like to make SMS compatible and
which also includes SQL 2005 Express. Everything that I have read so far seems to indicate that SQL 2005 Express cannot ever be pushed out using SMS or ActiveDirectory. http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/ex...upport/readme/ Quote: 1.3.14 Administrator Deployment is not supported for Express Editions. Administrator deployment using SMS or Active Directory is not supported for Visual Studio 2005 Express Editions. On a clean computer that is running Windows XP Professional, if you run the utility to create an .ini file for deployment (using admin docs), setup will launch but then hang after the feature selection screens. To resolve this issue There is no known resolution |

And your question is?

Oh, my bad! End of day rush.
Has anyone ever found a way to distribute SQL 2005 Express via SMS or Active Directory? Thanks. So, if a network administrator needs to push SQL 2005 Express out to a number
of users, does he have to do this by hand, visiting every workstation? Or is there another way around this issue? Any ideas? Thanks. My guess, is that Microsoft didn't want SQL Server 2005 Express Edition to
be used as a 'free' enterprise asset, and therefore did not make it easy to do what you are asking about. I am fairly good with some scripting - vbscript, jscript, InstallScript, and
some SQL scripting. I would not consider myself an expert in vbscript, jscript, or SQL Script, but I know enough of how to get around and more importantly how to find answers ![]() "Arnie Rowland" wrote: > My guess, is that Microsoft didn't want SQL Server 2005 Express Edition to > be used as a 'free' enterprise asset, and therefore did not make it easy to > do what you are asking about. > > How good are you with scripting? > > -- > Arnie Rowland, Ph.D. > Westwood Consulting, Inc > > Most good judgment comes from experience. > Most experience comes from bad judgment. > - Anonymous > > > "DLee65" <DLee65@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:7986E900-D7A2-49BE-83F9-CE0D056259B7@microsoft.com... > > So, if a network administrator needs to push SQL 2005 Express out to a > > number > > of users, does he have to do this by hand, visiting every workstation?
