I wouldn't normally post something like this, but this is beyond
obnoxious. The list of qualifications is huge - but take a look at the compensation they're offering! http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/web/584603816.html |

It's not all that much different to the many posts we've seen here over the years, that offer "a share of the [potential] profits" instead of upfront payment. It's the sort of job that should be avoided. -- Dylan Parry http://electricfreedom.org | http://webpageworkshop.co.uk The opinions stated above are not necessarily representative of those of my cats. Promises don't pay bills. |

I get an occassional offer from potential clients that goes something like this: I need about 8 hours of your time a day for PHP programming over the next 3 - 6 months. I can't tell you our business model because we don't want it stolen and we can't pay you upfront since we're a small start- up, but after we start turning an anticipated profit in 2009, we'll give you 5% of the profit. You see the potential, don't you? You'll make a couple hundred thousand over the next few years! No thanks, cash up front. The first one to do this to me in 2003 was a restaurant menu listing website. As of this morning, the domain is still parked at GoDaddy. |

As of this morning, the domain is still parked at GoDaddy. We get that a lot too, with hosting requests. They'll typically ask for a dedicated server with profit sharing as soon as their website makes money. --Tina |

From their point of view - it doesn't hurt to try, never know if
you'll get someone who'll work for free - of course, I imagine it'd be hard to get someone who does good work under those terms, unless they have some sort of independent income and are doing it for "fun." --- www.NEXCESS.NET - Shared/Reseller Hosting www.EliteRax.com - Dedicated Servers, Server Clusters www.MaxVPS.com - Virtual Private Servers - Great prices, Great service - check us out! My brother-in-law is also in this business. 3 years ago, he spent several days on a 5 page design for an online estate valuation website, with the promise of 10% of the proceeds from all sales/appraisals that come in as a result of the website. Funny thing - after 3 years (according to the owners) not a single appraisal has come through the site and it is #2 in Google in their desired search terms...very strange.... Just before Xmas they asked him to "freshen up" the site, this time he told them it would not be for future profits. He spent 2 hours on the site and sent them an invoice for $2200. They paid it. |
