Our web programming system Run BASIC will be released this weekend.
For those who haven't seen it check out the site at http://www.runbasic.com and look at the different tabs and the video link on the home page. We also have a Run BASIC forum up which is already loaded up with interesting and useful information. http://runbasic.proboards82.com See you there! -Carl Gundel http://www.libertybasic.com |

Excellent job.
Basic in stead of CGI. Basic in stead of HTML Basic in stead of PHP So just mix CGI, HTML,PHP in one program. And run your LAN server at home. It was an ad for your product. I beg to differ. Some months ago I posted on alt.www.webmaster that we were working on something of interest to web developers. This was simply a quick followup to let people know it was finally being released. I didn't receive such a negative reception before so I have pretty good reason to think people were interested. I'm certain that some people are. There's a lot of real SPAM getting posted every day, but all I did was post web related information in a web related newsgroup. Do a search and see if I posted this all over the usenet. I didn't. Have a nice day. -Carl |

IMHO, the difference between spam and Carl's product announcements is that Mr. Gundel actively participates in the froups he posts in -- the BASIC ones, anyways, when one of his products is the subject -- and his products are generally well-received in the BASIC community. His announcements are not considered spam by most, in our corner of the world anyway. I can understand this perhaps being unwelcome in a.w.w, but in the BASIC groups, some people have been waiting for this. -- I seek the questions that form the best images. |

Without taking a position on whether the original poster was correct or not, your response is both illogical and childish. If you want to say they suck because they're scummy spammers then that would be a valid opinion. If you want to say their web programming system sucks because you've examined it and there are solid technical reasons why then that's valid too. But, it does not logically follow that their web programming system sucks because they are spammers. It could be very good, and they can still be scummy spammers. From what I can see of the guy's RunBasic website, it's an informational site where webmasters can AT NO COST create Basic apps using Carl's Liberty Basic. If you want to buy Liberty Basic, you've go to click to a separate site, and the RunBasic site includes nothing in the way of a sales pitch. It just lets you type in code and generate a script that will run on a website without Basic installed. If this is advertising, I hope Carl is a better programmer than he is an ad guy. Alex |

It > seems like there's plenty of languages out there that do everything > Run BASIC does and more. PHP, Perl, ASP, etc. do not do everything Run BASIC does. These things are powerful but they're only pieces of a solution that cannot do anything by themselves. Run BASIC is an all-in-one web appserver. You don't need anything else to get started. What Run BASIC is designed to do very well is let the programmer focus on writing a program without being burdened with needing to know about Apache, CGI, sessions, state management between pages, administering a database, etc. All that stuff is managed for you by Run BASIC. So by using a procedural programming model and some OO-style techniques you can create an interactive web app in a way very similar to desktop app programming. There are built in objects to deal with XML parsing, database access, widgets, drawing graphics, etc. You don't deal with web pages in your coding model. Without a lot of code and in a short time you can create something useful. We wouldn't have bothered to develop RB if it was just a "me too" web system. You could argue that RB isn't powerful enough for commercial work. That depends, but it isn't really meant for that. Run BASIC aims to bring web programming to everyone else, just like a dialect of BASIC should. It is intended for personal projects and internal systems. I'm sure people will use it for many, many things that I can't imagine. Did you watch the screencast on the home page? That should give you a pretty good sense of it. Probably we need a more comprehensive walkthrough, or maybe just a few more screencasts. Thanks for asking. -Carl Gundel http://www.runbasic.com |
