I'm studyng how to optimize my blog, so I'm adding content and I'm
watching other blogs. I asked to www.websiteoptimization.com to analize a famous blog. The report isn't like I expected: * TOTAL_HTML - Congratulations, the total number of HTML files on this page (including the main HTML file) is 1 which most browsers can multithread. Minimizing HTTP requests is key for web site optimization. * TOTAL_OBJECTS - Warning! The total number of objects on this page is 29 - consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your external objects. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests. * TOTAL_IMAGES - Warning! The total number of images on this page is 12 , consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your graphics. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests. * TOTAL_CSS - Caution. The total number of external CSS files on this page is 5 , consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your external CSS files. Ideally you should have one (or even embed CSS for high-traffic pages) on your pages. * TOTAL_MULTIM - Congratulations, the total number of external multimedia files on this page is 2 . * TOTAL_SIZE - Warning! The total size of this page is 224623 bytes, which will load in 50.57 seconds on a 56Kbps modem. Consider reducing total page size to less than 30K to achieve sub eight second response times on 56K connections. Pages over 100K exceed most attention thresholds at 56Kbps, even with feedback. Consider contacting us about our optimization services. * TOTAL_SCRIPT - Warning! The total number of external script files on this page is 8 , consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refine, and optimize your external script files. Ideally you should have one (or even embed scripts for high-traffic pages) on your pages. * HTML_SIZE - Warning! The total size of this HTML page is 111802 bytes, which is over 100K! Consider optimizing your HTML and eliminating unnecessary content and features. * IMAGES_SIZE - Warning! The total size of your images is 60813 bytes, which is over 30K. Consider optimizing your images for size, combining them, and replacing graphic rollovers with CSS. * SCRIPT_SIZE - Warning! The total size of external your scripts is 40910 bytes, which is over 8K. Consider optimizing your scripts for size, combining them, and using compression where appropriate for any scripts placed in the HEAD of your documents. * CSS_SIZE - Warning! The total size of your external CSS is 9668 bytes, which is over 8K. Consider optimizing your CSS for size by eliminating whitespace, using shorthand notation, and combining multiple CSS files where appropriate. * MULTIM_SIZE - Congratulations, the total size of all your external multimedia files is 1430 bytes, which is less than 4K. How could a blog like this to be famous? |

The > report isn't like I expected: > How could a blog like this to be famous? Because that "optimiser" report is simplistic and rather obsolete. Mainly though it's because you're reading far too much into a crude report based on simply "weighing" the size of the site. That's like weighting two novels to decide that War and Peace is a better book than something by Jeffrey Archer. It might even give the right answer sometimes, but the logic is unreliable. |

Do you really think that technical matters make a blog famous? This report is about tech stuff like the amound of external files and the total size of the CSS-files. Nobody in the general public cares about that. -- Rob |

I have no idea. But when I search for something I take a look at a lot of the results, not only the first or the top ten. If there's a blog I want to return to regularly, I doubt it came to my attention through a search action. More probably I read about it in a newsgroup or a link on some site about the same subject. -- Rob |

But a bad optimization site doesn't mean bad donwload time, then don't you lose viewers? What does it make a website user-friendly? I like to see a bloglist not too long, I feel more confortamble if I see a google search toolbar, to see a wish list of a blog I appreciate. I hate content link. This is what make to feel me more confortamble and it isn't what male a website userfriendly. |

It can, yes. But the two biggest factors in ranking are content and inbound links. A famous blog will inevitably have plenty of both.
