We always get ours just a few days before - then we keep it up until
Twelfth Night.

(Just as an aside, for those who may not know - the 12 days of Christmas
are actually the 12 days FOLLOWING - with the arrival of the wise men on
the twelfth night.)

My Dad was a WWII-era vet. One year - before I was born - his leaves kept
being canceled, and Mom (and Grandma and Grandpa - I was born into a
two-generation household, making adding a third) kept keeping the tree up
for his arrival...until he finally made it in April.
