Par défaut OT? deleting a file?

I am backing some things up to data discs and I want to delete the files off
my pc after they are backed up.
The problem is one folder.. I try to delete the folder and it tells me it
can't because it can't find this one file
like something.txt just for example. So I try to go into that folder and
create something.txt and it tells me I can't
because a file with the same name already exists in that folder but if it
does I can't see it.

I have search for 'can't delete file' in google but I have not found a
relevant answer. Everything I have found
deals with files in use pretty much.

In the folder click Tools>Folder Options>View> and then tick Show
hidden files and folders. Then you'll be able to see the file -
whether you can then delete it or not is another matter

There is a free utility called Unlocker. No spyware and may not even
have to be installed, I can't recall.

If that doesn't solve your problem, I would run checkdisk.

That is the crazy thing I should have mentioned... I do have that set and
have for years...
I still can't see the mystery file...

Interesting idea but wouldn't I have to see the file to delete it with a
program?

heh

Okay here's Windows trick. Sometimes if you cannot delete a file... you
can RENAME it. Try renaming it... once it's renamed you can delete it.
