I'm wondering what the best way is to get a sitemap on your page and
into google.
Is there any freeware you think is best, any tricks to using it?

Do you mean a Google XMS site map? They are simple to generate by
hand, and then upload to your site and tell Google about the file. No
tricks required, Google will give you a validation code, follow the
instructions. Even I managed to do it.
