What are the important difference between SSL Certificate providers
such as VeriSign and others like GoDaddy. The price difference is
considerable, but is VeriSign worth it?

The main difference is the name, It's like buying Sears or Walmart.
You still get the same 128 bit encryption from both, the 20 dollar
godaddy cert probably doesn't offer domain name change though or
support and is considered a chained root certificate. For example you
purchase an ssl cert for secure.yourdomain.com and then you want to
change it to order.yourdomain.com . You have have to purchase another
cert .
