In my earlier request for , in which I asked about shockwave
buttons, my memory was playing tricks on me. I hadn't made shockwvae
buttons, but flash buttons.

Here's the "info" from the home page of the site I used:

No software to download or install.
Requires no programming skills.
Compatible with all web authoring tools.
Instantly add your text and links.
Can be added to any web page in seconds.

Now, if there's no software to download or install - and I can see
that animation - that means that it doesn't require any special player
to be seen, right? [I dont' know why I thought I was using
Shockwave...I'm sure I had to download it to see something....the old
brain box has gone on me, I'm afraid.]

Or is "flash" the same as "shockwave?"

Sorry to be so slow in the uptake, and thanks for any on this
one.

thethunderchild.com is the site in question, if anyone wants to take
a look...

okay, I did a bit of research on my own, and found this page that
explains the difference between flash and shockwave.

It seems Flash is supposed to be "ubiquitous" - so it should be safe
to use, right?

Which means I'm losing hits hopefully just because it was the last few
weeks of summer vacation.....

Again, sorry to have started a red herring earlier...

Ubiquitous, perhaps, but not universal. You will have to decide if
ubiquitous is good enough.

Flash does require a player. Most people have it. Not all do.

No. That's just marketing guff. Flash should *not* be used for primary
navigation.

No, yo were right earlier. Using Flash for navigation will make your
site less accessible. Ditch it.

Your primary navigation doesn't show on the front page at all in
Firefox (it does in IE), which may be another source of your missing
visitors. Where it is visible, it isn't really doing anything that you
couldn't achieve with HTML, CSS and Javascript - something which would
degrade gracefully for non-JS users and be a lot more accessible.

Include the http, so it's a link: http://thethunderchild.com/

Here's what I see in Firefox (no special blockers, JS is on, Flash is
available): http://mypage.bluewin.ch/jlh/thethunderchild.jpg

The search engines won't see any links to follow either.

For this particular site I'd agree, but it's quite feasible these days
to have a site that is completely Flash based. Depends on who you'd
like to see it, and whether or not you're willing to create
alternative content for those who do not have Flash installed.
