Par défaut personal website and legal documents question

Hello

Im creating a website at the moment which when completed, will
probably need its own disclaimer and terms and conditions for how the
information collected is used by the users and also to state that any
content created will be stored in such a such way yadayada

How would I go about getting these documents written up? are there
templates i can use?

keep in mind, im just a code monkey with an idea. i dont really want
to spend money on a lawyer to draw these documents up for me. I just
want some basic stuff which covers a lot of things.

Can anyone or know where I can find what im after?

Thanks
Vince

Look around at what other sites similar to yours has. Not necessarily
your area, but the same idea.

For instance, if you're selling crawdad bellies, don't necessarily look
for another crawdad bellies store - another internet retailer would work
fine.

I can't tell from your post whether you need any more than this or not:

There's no need to overcomplicate matters because people usually ignore
such things anyway.

Look into "P3P". This is a machine-readable form for expressing such
things, and there are plenty of on-line question-and-answer tools around
that will do the necessary legwork for you, along with human-readable
documents to match.

Also check local laws, particularly laws like COPPA that may limit the
information you can collect or store related to children.

I would prefer the simple approach and just make something up myself
like Red has said, but I just don't want some big company ripping my
work and then me discovering I didn't include some clause.

Maybe I can look at something like GPL or similar and modify it
myself.

Thanks for the info guys

GPL is about expressing copyright, not data retention policies. You'll
also find Creative Commons to be more easily understood and adaptable
than GPL.

P3P is pretty easy - just use the on-line auto-creators.
