Hi there.
Ive got a new job working for xrio.com and one of my first tasks is to sort out the mess that is the website. Theyve decided to use the xrio.com as the main domain but theres a legacy of links to xrio.co.uk and the .co.uk is the one currently found on google. Im going through all the backlinks and requesting updates where applicable but have noticed some deep links on forums to pages that are no longer there (and are on the .co.uk domain) anyone got any suggestions on how i can solidify xrio.com and tackle this problem? is it a case of 301 all 'dead' pages on .co.uk and pushing them across to .com? also anyone got any experience with dotnetnuke and care to me sort this too? thanks mark |

Aaargh! Be _extremely_ careful. The .co.uk domain is currently hosted by Schlund in Germany. If you convert to a generic TLD like .com you will lose geolocation for UK searches because of Google's (illegal) geolocation policy within the UK. It will treat xrio.com as a German site. In the short term, if you want UK geolocation on searches you will have to move your .com host to the UK. Read and understand this from Google's Matt Cutts: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/seo-ad...onicalization/ > is it a case of 301 all 'dead' pages on .co.uk and pushing them across > to .com? 301 the entire .co.uk site across. But beware of the above. |
