I'm looking for GIF files showing the cartoon characters Tom and
Jerry. Actually I want *animated* GIFs, but so far I haven't even found an efficient way of googling for *all* such GIFs. After reading some notes on 'advanced Google searches', I tried filetype:gif jerry filetype:gif tom etc but I was surprised to find these produced very few hits. Even filetype:gif cartoon gave only 5 hits! And some of the hits I'd found by standard arbitrary searches were not found by filetype:gif. For example, this one http://www.drybonesproject.com/blog/TomAndJerry.gif is not found by filetype:gif tomandjerry Why not? Am I not using this correctly? More important, how would I best construct an efficient search please? -- Terry, East Grinstead, UK |

Have you tried image searches? try [Tom & Jerry] [Hanna Barbera] [Tom cartoon cat] [Jerry cartoon mouse] [animated tom jerry] Pobably best to try with and without [gif] - in my experience, adding filetype does little to improve searches, and you may miss some, but if you tighten up your subject search, you'll soon sort the types. [animated] does - but it will miss some too, so do with and without. and combinations thereof; don't even think about giving up until you've tries at least 50 combinations - they are out there. I know - because I saw some when I was looking for T&J stills a couple of years ago. -- Andrew http://www.seo2seo.com/ http://www.sick-site-syndrome.com/ First things first - but not necessarily in that order. Thanks Andrew. Yes, I started with Google Images, and scanned a few hundred 'hits'. But after my lack of success I later tried [mouse gif] and that gave me one possible http://frecklescassie.files.wordpres...7/02/mouse.gif which I've forwarded to the original enquirer. For future reference, I'm keen to understand why that filetype format doesn't give the results I'd expect? What is it *supposed* to find? -- Terry, East Grinstead, UK |
