I have a question. Take the site www.hazorea-aquatics.com as an example.
Google link search of "link:hazorea-aquatics.com" returns 5 hits. Yet there are dozens of sites that link to hazorea-aquatics.com and a search for "hazorea-aquatics" produces 1300+ hits with many of the sites having a link to www.hazorea-aquatics.com. So why does Google link search not show all of them? Thanks, Hank |

You'll have to ask Google the 'why'; but you are correct, the link:search is not an effective way to find backlinks. Google staffers have hinted it is to discourage the obsession with links, but there's no 'official' view that I'm aware of. Yahoo! is a better source. If it matters. After all, you have no control over them when you find them, and no reliable way to gauge their quality! This is very soon going to get the prize for the most asked question
and most easily searchable answer. I'm getting really sick of people who are too lazy to search for themselves and so waste the time of others. It's very selfish. However - from a Google FAQ that is VERY easy to find if you take the trouble: "Q: I have [thousands/several/at least two] links to my site, but when I search on Google it says I have [zero/not that many] links. What gives? A: If you do a Google search using the link: operator (e.g. [link:www.example.com]), you will see a sampling of pages that link to your site. For a more complete list of pages that link to you, verify your site in Webmaster Tools and then click the Links tab to see the sites that link to you." |

They think it might to reverse-engineer their algos. You might wonder why they have the facility at all then. Probably because they like to give out disinformation.
