I started a blog a while back and the traffic is picking up. I am
doing this under the philosphy that content is king. http://www.claritaslux.com/blog
However, I am new to blogging and have a few questions:

1) My blog pages rank high when the page first come out, and sinks
latter - is this because they are are not dynamic enough, I am not
adding comments to them and changing them? such as this page

2) I have tried:
A) short blogs post that really just report news.

B) long self written creative post

C) medium to small size posts with a link or two and keywords
optmized. This seems to do the best. Does anyone else have
recommendations for making blog posts rank besides h1 and h2 and link
with keywords?

3) Should I focus my energy and just write and write, or should I
focus on other techniques for blogging like making comments on other
people's blogs or creating a widget, or do it more with optmizing
each page with linking keywords etc, or updating old pages?

Any other ideas to make blogs work for traffic?

I ussually post a blog, like this, as another example,
http://www.claritaslux.com/blog/2007...uage-to-learn/
and it will start to drop in a week or so. I think when google passes
by again and compares it to other sites with the same keyword. My
current theory is if people are commenting on it and the page is
changing, the ranking stays, if not it drops.

I have some sites like http://www.polishgrammar.com that are solid
and stay number 1, if I change things or not. Its just my blog, that
acts this way. I wonder if google treats blog post different.

Your 'blog' is about russian *dating* - it is a fact of life that there is a
thriving sex trade supplying brothels in western cities with russian
prostitutes, who have usually been coerced. There is plenty of evidence
(court cases, news stories, to back this up, Go read). They get promised
visitors to the west for 'good jobs', occasionally they knwo they will be
'hostesses (your 'russian girlfriends'), but usually they have no idea until
they arrive and are forced into the sex trade to survive, reinforced by
threats against their families.

I took a quick look at your blog and immediately recognised my work,
your using an edited version of one of my AdSense templates, this one
http://www.morearnings.com/2006/08/3...oogle-adsense/
Might be removing the free templates from the site soon and selling
them at http://www.google-adsense-templates.co.uk/ (not decided yet,
they generate a lot of links so might only sell the version 03 themes,
better optimised/more AdSense options).

Anyway, your problem is obvious way too much content (hard to believe
I know :-)).

Basically everything you add to your site at FIRST gains a home page
(blog home page) link, but because of the high number of posts that
link quickly disappears and with it the link benefit/PR (which because
the link is internal is passed in full immediately).

Unfortunately as long as so many new pages are added there's not a
great deal you can do about it, unless you have a source of really
high PR links to power a site with so many pages added a month.

Like I said it was a quick look, would I be right in assuming most of
this content isn't unique (not created by you, if it is well done)? If
so that brings another issue, Google in particular has got really good
at filtering sites that use feeds etc... to create large blogs etc...
they tend to do well for a short period of time then drop off the
Google map.

If your site is filled with others content and you care about the blog
I'd suggest deleting all the copied stuff and starting again because
it's not a good long term revenue creator. Basically one good unique
page can out perform a 10,000 page site filled with copied content in
revenue generation.

Hmm, if it is your content mostly you could save a small number of
pages from the PR/link benefit decrease by linking to them from your
main page (add to blogroll for example).

lists the last ten posts. I see many sites like lifehacker.com use
something like this or create a playback post of the best posts of the
week.

What are you looking at to come to the above conclusions?

I've not read every page of his blog, but a simple search shows the
site is not about dating-

offer a service, basically an article to support his language product/
service. Even if the articles are based on his true intentions at
worst he's considering looking to date a Russian woman with an aim to
marriage. I don't see a problem with that.

And one relevant post with a few links does not make a SPAMMER!

It's a mistake I've made a few times as well adding too many not so
important pages that drown out the important ones. With standard blogs
consider removing the monthly archives (or nofollow the links) so less
pages are indexed (less PR/link benefit wasted).

I use an addon as well that shows X number of posts on every page,
great addon.

You should look at the Alinks http://www.alinks.org/ addon as well,
add your most important pages to it as links and every post that uses
that keyword/phrase will link to the page. You can see an example of
the links here http://www.morearnings.com/2007/07/0...-google-serps/
basically 90%+ of the links within the content are automated via this
addon. Saves a LOT of time adding links between relevant pages. You
can see the related posts addon at the bottom of that page as well.

Thanks, lots of people download the free ones generating a few good
links, moving towards selling a few now. If you want more control over
the ad sizes and better SEO (learnt a few new tricks with WP blogs)
the new ones are the way to go.

I can see the point of that but discerning links in the conternt is
difficult. I think they need to stand out a little more.
