Par défaut Meta content tags ..... ???

When I created my site I read that meta content tags were useless, but
I typed one in anyhow.

Now I see that one of my pages pops up on a Yahoo search for -
Maxwell's equations for dummies-.... and the word 'dummies' is in my
meta content tag but not in the site text.

So, I'm thinking, these meta content tags are useful after all ????

Yahoo has been known to use them. Search this NG you will find that I have
mentioned it here.

You'll hear more bollocks here than at an average football game.

Try Yahoo with 'quattro sprachausgabe' (without the quotes).

Hit 1 is http://www.isham-research.co.uk/quattro/wr_voice.html - one
of my pages. 'Sprachausgabe' appears only in the meta keywords.

Many search engines use the meta keywords tag. Lycos is another, and
I'm not entirely persuaded that Google doesn't have a look sometimes
too - it would explain some odd things I've seen.

The keywords meta tag - with keyword phrases separated by commas, not
spaces - is also a useful way to input the keywords you're after
optimising foro to various tools.

(The search engines don't seem to care how you delimit keywords, but
the tools do.)

In general. it's a HUGE mistake to optimise only for Google. I check
out what other engines are doing and try to get a good balance on all
the sites I look after - over half my traffic is non-Google. This is
very handy for those not infrequent occasions when Google screws up
and 'false positives' a site for some supposed infringement - at least
the business doesn't stop completely.
