Please, please, please me...
When I search for pages I only want those that actually have the desired keywords in them. If my search terms are not specifically included in a page, then I do not want to see that page. If there are any search engines that will allow me to do this, please, please, please, tell me about them. Steve |

They will happily return pages that have links to them with the word "keyword" in the anchor text even though there is not a single "keyword" on the page. Also, they will return pages that have "keyword" in their URL. In fact, Google will even return those with "keyword" in anchor text before those that actually contain the word "keyword" in the page. Ever heard of "Google Bomb" and "miserable failure"? Look them up if you didn't, can be pretty entertaining. There may be some search engines out there that still use on-page index only and so they will return only pages that have "keyword" on the page but you can safely bet they will have reach so limited that you won't get any useful data from the search. -- Cheers, Dmitri See Site Sig Below -- +------------------------------------------------+ | Follow alt.internet.search-engines threads | | with your Firefox Live Bookmarks! MSN did in the past, and they were the only one that did in the past, but they (MSN) no longer do it. Thanks! Steve |

After receiving the search results, I reviewed the first twenty records having the "Cached" option and found that not using the leading "+" results in only 20% of the pages actually containing the desired keywords and phrase; whereas, using the leading "+" increased the percentage of acceptable records to an astonishing 95%. Needless to say... You're my hero! Steve |

I wonder if the 95% rate is because the page once contained those keywords. Google remembers the text on a page even after you remove it and will still sometimes show that page for those queries. I don't know if that is the reason though. |

1.1E+06,
Perhaps you can me with another desire... I have found that including a keyword in the [Without The Words] field or adding "-keyword" (without the quotes, of course) in the search criteria does not insure the keyword will not be present in those pages being returned. Is there any way to increase the efficacy of the NOT feature? Thanks! Steve |

I'm not sure... the minus (-) isn't working? |
