I am considering changing the structure of my folders for better
indexing, but was wondering if there was a risk of over optimizing and then being penalized by Google. For example, say I have a page that is focusing on a phrase "widget blue", which is apart of a larger category known as "widget green" i.e. "widget" is common to both. The current location is like this: /green/blue.html but I want to change it to /widget-green/widget-blue.html Do you think this is a good idea or could I be thought of as over optimizing? |

You'd be changing your directory structure. Is it indexed already? I'd leave it and just concentrate on building better content and better inbound links. The thing is, I have to redirect anyway because I am changing from html to php, so I thought while I was at it I may as well tidy things up a little. But not if it would cost me SE points. Peter. |

The flatter you can make your structure the better chance it will have unless you are able to get deep links to individual pages / folders. Jez. |

I think the Optimizing police might not like that idea. I tried that years ago and I didn't make any difference. The only thing they seem to get you on is making endless gateway pages. http://robotweek.com |
