Hi,
I've got a couple of questions here actually: I'm running a small business producing streaming video for people's websites. I've been using a third-party hosting solution for the videos, although I do have the option now of hosting them on my own website's server. Would the fact that my client's websites have links to my videos positively impact on my search engine listing, in terms of providing me with inbound links? Along with this, does inbound links have to point to an actual webpage, or can it just be a file (like a video or audio stream)? I am thinking that should I host their videos, perhaps I should be placing them inside html pages, so they end up linking to those from their site. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Also, if anyone knows of ways you can optimise searches for video, or use video as a SEO tool, please let me know! |

I guess quite some people link to his HTML pages. -- John Need with SEO? Get started with a SEO report of your site: --> http://johnbokma.com/websitedesign/seo-expert-.html |

But I wondered if this was just applicable to html pages, or whether ANY link would suffice (eg: say to a video or audio file with a .wmv , mp3 , swf extension). If not, would it then be a better idea to have the links to my videos on their sites go to a html page with the video embedded within it? |

Doubtfull IMO. Why not do the same as the irongeek guy? > But I wondered if this was just applicable to html > pages, or whether ANY link would suffice (eg: say to a video or audio > file with a .wmv , mp3 , swf extension). Always a good idea, because you can add content to that page. -- John Need with SEO? Get started with a SEO report of your site: --> http://johnbokma.com/websitedesign/seo-expert-.html |

IBLs are IBLs, won't matter what's on the end of them. It's where they come from that's important. > If not, would it then be a >better idea to have the links to my videos on their sites go to a html >page with the video embedded within it? Um. Dunno, how are they presented anyway if they're not embedded? I'm just wondering if Google has any problems with returning a video in response to a query as opposed to the environment it's displayed in. I can't think of an example. Get a gazillion inbounds to individual videos and see. BB |
