I've been working on a new website and only within the last week did I
upload it from my local machine to my server. It's not finished yet and therefore I have not made any attempts to get it listed or spidered- no links to it from any other website. The website is therefore 'an orphan' in the sense that it's up on the web but with no links to it and no way that I can think of that the search engines can find it and index it. However, within the last few days Yahoo has got it listed. This within about 3- 4 days or uploading it.I was astonished. How can this have happened? -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |

Same thing happened with me, but I do have adsense and google search on there, so may be that was the reason for me. Do you have any yahoo adverts on your site at all ? plh Paul -- Handmade Jewelry from Texas : http://www.houstoncrafts.com/gemstone/choker-204.html http://www.houstoncrafts.com/beaded/chokers-213.html http://www.houstoncrafts.com/beaded/necklaces-217.html ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

Nothing like that whatsoever. I do have some *outbound* links to sites such as Thawte/Visa etc but if this would only explain the listing if ,in some way ,Yahoo! was monitoring links to these sites and updated its database as new sites linked to them but surely this is a bit far fetched ?? -keevill- -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |

So google knows exactly which website you visit and GoogleBot will come knocking if it doesn't know the domain yet. |

Aha I see.. so if I or anyone else uses Yahoo toolbar and browse to the new site, Yahoo will pick it up and go to check it out. Simple really . Thx for enlightening me !! -keevill- -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |

There is a question to turn this feature on and off on google toolbar,
Settings->More->Send usage statistics to Google. You Opted in or out of this as well when installing the toolbard. At least for Google. Alexa not so sure.I used it once and I believe Panda screamed that it was full of spyware. Since then i've stayed away. I send stats to google though unless i'm setting up a new site. On two of my domain names with NO LINKS in or out and no words except in the title tag, Yahoo picked it up The sites are vanity sites so they are one page and use gifs to display the information. There is no text except in the title tag. The only explanation I can think of is I use 1and1.com to host and maybe they are submitting every site hosted by them? I use K-Meleon as my browser and have no other toolbars as K-Meleon doesn't need them. |

Why should these toolbars send back the traffic information, i.e. which sites we visit and other related information to crawlers? I know google stores users search habit, provided users let them - to refine search results; but why using toolbars for that? -- Raqueeb Hassan Bangladesh |

I note the Yahoo spider in my logfiles. So to test I deliberately installed Google bar and clicked over several times to the website . Lo and behold yesterday the googlebot came to call and sniff around. Co-incidence or was it cos Yahoo recorded my website? Surely correct that the toolbars record browser habits and update their database when new sites pop up. -keevill- -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |
