I've heard that if you change the name of the page, if you do a 301
redirect it will pass along the PageRank to the page you redirect to. I have also heard that if you have two domains that you want to interlink without having Google apply the dreaded "host affiliation filter" just do a 301 redirect. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=6392 So, does the 301 pass PageRank or not? It's also not always instantaneous. >I have also heard that if you have two domains that you want to >interlink without having Google apply the dreaded "host affiliation >filter" just do a 301 redirect. >http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=6392 > >So, does the 301 pass PageRank or not? I don't think that it passes actual PageRank numbers from one page to another, but you shouldn't worry about PageRank in that context. The 301 *should* remove the old URL from its spot in the index and replace it with the new page. A 301 says "this old page has permanently moved to this new URL". If that is your goal, then the 301 is probably the right solution. |
