Recently, like yesterday my IE6 browser started to be redirected when
clicking on the search results from a google search. You can see that after clicking on the google link returned from the search that you begin to go to the correct page, but then the redirection happens and you can see a new address appear on the bottom of the browser and you are redirected to a site that is mostly advertisements for something related to my search. Been seeing quite a few pages with advertizer show up as being the source. The redirects do not happen if I use ask.com, or the search function from yahoo. Anyone have any thoughts on this. |

Similar situations were described here in the past - IIRC IE can be tricked into such behavior. Hopefully someone will remember more details about what to do. Your browser might have been hijacked. Download the usual garbage removing tools, and run them. Oh, hasn't read that before replying to the bit at the top, so the disgnosis appears to intersect. It might also be worth upgrading the Web browser by switching to something less permissive and exposed. Opera seems like a good candidate. Best wishes, Roy -- Roy S. I have already run the spybot search and destroy, Trojan hunter, Ad aware, and none of them find anything, even after downloaded to the lastest definitions. What I find odd, is that searches performed from the Yahoo search engine do not give the same problems as exhibited by the Google searches. I read an online blog, where google results were hijacked, and people were sent to different locations when clicking on the search result links. Anyone hear about something like that. > > -- > Roy S. And various scans could not remove what seems to me like 'poisoning' of IE. Best wishes, Roy PS - Thanks for the support in that other thread. Tried Hijackthis, Adaware, Spybot, CWshredder, etc, and none of them find anything, even when using the latest definitions. I find it odd that it is only links from Google search reslults that give a redirection, and it is not constant, IE some pages go to the expected page, while only some go to a redirected page. The redirected page is usually another search result page with a list of links for items similar to my original search on Google. The one common element I see, is a logo for ADVERTIZER somewhere on the page that I was redirected too. I tried searching the registry for that word, and no entries were found. > > BB > -- > > http://www.crystal-liaison.com/adam-...t-i150456.html > http://www.crystal-liaison.com/all-g...dren/cece.html > http://www.crystal-liaison.com/all-t...-american.html |

The program fixwareout seems to have solved the redirects, as I ran that program and it discovered some bogus entries in the registry. Some time ago maybe. But I have noticed that people take software very personal (wink wink), so calling IE crap is like saying: you're crap. Telling them to switch software is like telling that their partner should dump them :-) Better: fix the problem for them so you can also explain what caused it, etc. and let them do the math. Sometimes they can use IE after that without getting into problems often :-) And while doing so, you can mutter: weird, I have never had this problem with the browser I use ;-) Or, what I often prefer: I have no idea, I use Firefox, and hardly use IE at all. Saves a lot of time, until they do switch to Firefox, and then it's: * John, I lost my bookmarks again, why??? * John, I have updated Firefox, and now it crashes everytime and doesn't start at all * John, Firefox doesn't render my MySpace page correctly, what should I do? I try to avoid advice as much as possible, because I might become a desk. I try to avoid: A is broke, use B instead even more :-D. > And various scans could not remove what seems to me like 'poisoning' > of IE. Yup, the poisoning often stops when people work as limited user. Sadly there is a shit load of software that cripples when not ran as Admin or doesn't even start up (Some Lite CSS editor I checked out recently had that issue). > PS - Thanks for the support in that other thread.
