I am trying to figure out how to get started with my web marketing
services business. I have been working in PPC and SEO with Google, Yahoo, and MSN for nearly 3 years. Recently I have begun putting effort into learning HTML, XHTML, CSS, and other related languages. I have written my own website, and it is nearly ready for publication. However, I have no idea what is the best for me in terms of buying a domain name and getting set up. My site is small, and I do not expect a large number of visitors, at least for a while, but I don't know about what bandwidth, etc I would need. Currently I have less than 20 pages total, including those not shown. I have few graphics and intend to keep it that way. I will also be avoiding Flash and Java. Additionally, I am on a limited budget. I don't want to sacrifice usability on the alter of affordability, but I really don't want to pay unnecessarily either. Are there any suggestions? I also have a links question. I know that I need other sites linking to me and I need to link to other sites, but is there a best way to go about obtaining these links? Thanks, Anna |

I take it that you have everything pointing to /index.html or similar. It is said that it is best to point to the domain, so your internal pages when linking to your homepage will be http://www.example.com/index.html These will need to be changed to http://www.example.com So, when you know your domain name, you will need to alter these. > My site is small, and I do not expect a large number of visitors, at least for a while, but I don't know >about what bandwidth, etc I would need. All depends on your site. Are the pages and graphics compressed ? What kind of business is it ? If a very niche market, then probably won't need a lot. Don't go for a freebie site. Go for what you can afford with your money. I have one site that does about 15 mb a day, and another site that does 2.5 - 3 gb a day. > Currently I have less than 20 >pages total, including those not shown. Are there any suggestions? Shop around basically. Google the compnay for any good/bad reports about them. etc etc. >I also have a links question. I know that I need other sites linking >to me and I need to link to other sites, but is there a best way to go >about obtaining these links? Yes. Link ONLY to related sites. Make sure the page your link is on is cached by all engines. Make sure they are not using redirects etc. Don't link to link farms or FFA sites. Avoid programs like zeal / linkmanager etc. Check out their robots.txt and to see if they are using rel=nofollow. Try to find a name to the site owner and write to them manually. Check to see if they have any restrictions etc. Have your link to their site added first. [Better to wait till google etc have cached it. Then that can be added into the letter to the webmaster - it does improve your chances of a link] DO NOT start your letter with "We visited your site and realized that it has a good content. We'd like to exchange links with your site to both of us improving our ranking on search engine." As they go straight into the bin. Do not accept links if you are on a page with 100's of other links, even if they are related. No one is going to click on it, esp if you are at the bottom. That's my experience anyway. Keep a spreadsheet of the URL your link is on. The date added, webmaster name and email addy. PR of page your link is on, and any other info you may want to keep. Hope that s. plh Paul >Thanks, > >Anna -- American Indian Jewelry http://www.firstpeople.us/native-ame...n-Artwork.html American Indian Poems and Prayers http://www.firstpeople.us/FP-Html-Wisdom/poemsidx.html ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

I do not know if this will , but I use www.1and1.com for my clients and
my own site. Their cost depends your needs, I recommend to clients to try thier $4.99 per month option. For $60.00 per year, you recieve two domain names hosting with plenty of bandwidth and many extras. Check them out to see if they meet your needs.
