As a result of the Adobe's updater advisement of an update, I updated CS3. Upon initializing CS3 everything looked as if all settings had been reset to defaults, and I lost custom actions. Does anyone have an idea if the actions are permanently lost and if so how to prevent future occurances after and update.

Bruce,
Until you deliberately save Actions that you made, they only exist volatile in the settings file. If you have a backup of that, it's there. Better is to save it under an existing or new action set (.atn file) Rob |

Thanks - this proves the saying what you don't know you don't know. Is there a specific place to save actions?

You can save them anywhere you want, but a likely place is the Actions folder in the Presets folder. Give them a unique name. Also, back them up to some other place or removable media.

but a likely place is the Actions folder in the Presets folder. I agree w/ed, except that i like to create a folder for all custom stuff, including 3rd party plugins and my actions, outside the program files structure so it can be reused after upgrading. somthing like C:\DAVES_PHOTOSHOP_STUFF\actions, C:\DAVES_PHOTOSHOP_STUFF\plugins etc. |

That's fine. It's just easier to load Presets when they are in their respective folders. It's just a matter of selecting them from the dropdown menu. But, either way....

It's just easier to load Presets when they are in their respective folders it is, but it's also easier to delete or forget to save them when cleaning after an upgrade. ![]() |
