Actually, if it's Windows, this is a sure way.

If you can get the other side to reboot, you probably can sniff it's
gratuitous arp. I use that method to find out the address of
accesspoints, wireless bridges, etc when we don't know the IP address.
Works like a charm and saves us a reset to factory default when all we
need is a new IP address.
