Along these same lines if anyone is looking for the fix for Iceweasel,
IceDove, and Evolution:

I found that same thing to be true for Iceweasel with Evolution as I
could no longer open urls in emails in a browser without copying and
pasting them. I put /usr/bin/firefox %s(/usr/bin/firefox is a symbolic
link to Iceweasel) in the text box in "Preferred Applications" for the
preferred browser. Just the path alone will not work correctly. It
will open the browser or a new tab, but to the home page, not the url
just clicked on. The %s is required for opening the url found in the
email client.
