I thought the default page gave you an explanation? Assuming a fairly
recent version of Apache. The manual certainly does.

Have you copied the contents of your document root folder into
/var/www/html or copied the folder to there (making a sub-directory)?

By default, Apache considers the document root "index.html" file to be the
homepage: /var/www/html/index.html
