yes it is there
pull your guides out from the rulers
choose the slice tool (not the slice selection tool!!!)
at the top bar is a button >>choose slices from guides
I never used CS2 version I went from CS to CS3
I was unhappy to lose image ready but all of it is now inside CS3 no need to
switch and so far it seems no features have been lost
some are hidden now
one thing I can no longer see is the EXPORT as SWF (FLASH)
