Thanks, guys, for all the useful information. I'll be looking at the web
sites you suggest.

Regarding the limitations of PE, the one I've been concerned about is the
omission of Curves. However, a free substitute (SmartCurve) for Curves is
available from http://free.pages.at/easyfilter/curves.html as a plug-in. It
seems to work well and might even be superior to Curves provided by Adobe in
the full version of Photoshop.
