That's odd. I just tested it with an .ai file and got great results. Did you go
to Edit>Assign Profile and select "sRGB IEC61966-2.1" to accomplish this? Is it
just vectors in the file or are there also raster images? If there are raster
images, they'll more than likely need to have the same thing done prior to
importing them in Illustrator.
