Interesting. I didn't know that was there. It is the same set of
functions as in Edit > Auto-Align Layers, with one addition.
There's a fifth option called Interactive Layout. It's the
perspective I want but it doesn't knit the images together. It
resizes them and sort-of lines them up. Here's the result that one
gives. Still unacceptable, but for a different reason.

Yes, but the Reposition Only seem completely useless. It makes no
attempt to knit the images together. It does put them in the correct
order, but it just stacks them side by side -- overlapping them in a
seemingly random manner.

I don't know how he got that flat/horizontal result. I'm doing
exactly what he did to get the result in my original post.
