in Windows:

Ctrl + F3 will bring back the Properties Panel. You can also go to
Window > Properties on the top menu bar.

select object you want the gradient on, in the Properties Panel next to
the fill color hit the down arrow then click on Gradient.

You can also give a gradient to an object from the Tools Panel. To the
right of the color picker click and hold the Bucket Tool, select
Gradient Tool from the drop down.

You can also cycle through the Bucket Tool and the Gradient Tool in the
Tools panel by using the G key on your keyboard.
