Are you getting virus definitions for you guest machines at that time. We
saw something similar everyday where the CPU would jump to 100% on the host
and all the guests because all were set to get virus definitions at the same
time and do a quick scan at that time. It isn't a big deal for 2 or 3 to do
this, but if 20 try to do this at the same time, the host will be burried.
The quick scan, at this stage isn't to quick since it is fighting for
resources of the host. Our remedy was to push the virus updates out until
after peak business hours and to bypass the quick scans upon new virus
definition retrieval. We still do a full scan once a week This does not
bury the host cpu since it has a symantec has a cpu throttle for the full
scan. The quick scan did not in the version we were using.

Hope it s or maybe points to something else that might be happening at
that time.
